Disability Employment Programs
Next Gen Leaders
Next Gen Leaders is an application-based program where students and recent graduates who self-identify with any disability are matched with a corporate mentor for a 6-month virtual career mentoring program. They meet with their mentor virtually twice a month and engage monthly in career development training as a whole group. These are not just any mentors – these are people working in BIG NAMES like Google, Microsoft, and Boeing. These connections can expand a student’s professional network, build their confidence and career competency, and potentially lead to more opportunities in the future. The application is typically due in early January and consists of some written statements, a resume submission, and a LinkedIn profile review. Graduates are eligible up to two years after graduation. More information is available on the NextGen Leaders website. The Career Center can help students with the application process.
Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)
The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP), coordinated by the U.S. Department of Labor, is a recruitment program that connects federal employers with college students, graduate students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to demonstrate their abilities in the workplace through internships or permanent jobs.
Candidates apply to the WRP each fall with support from participating colleges and universities. Applicants can engage in career development activities to strengthen their resume and interview skills. Candidates represent all majors and range from college freshmen to graduate students and graduates within the last two years. Information from candidates seeking employment is compiled in a searchable database available to employers.
WRP is recognized as a model strategy in its guidance to federal agencies regarding the recruitment and hiring of people with disabilities. Since the program’s expansion in 1995, thousands of students and recent graduates have received temporary and permanent employment opportunities through the WRP. WRP is a talent database available to employers across the Federal Government. Applications are typically due in early October and consist of a resume and transcript submission. A Schedule A letter is a required document for the application. More information can be found on the Workforce Recruitment Center website. The Career Center can help students with the application process.
