Full-time Employment
As you near graduation and consider searching for a full-time position, you’ll need to dedicate thought and effort to each step of the job search process. The process is very similar to how you look for any other type of job. However, you may quickly feel that searching for a full-time position seems significantly more challenging than securing a part-time job and internship. For the employer, filling a full-time position with a job candidate is a large and risky investment which means they often approach the process more seriously. They are betting on their chosen candidate to be someone who, after some initial training, will:
- add value to the organization
- adapt well to the culture of their team
- behave ethically and support the organization’s mission
- stay long enough for the company to get a decent return on their investment
Increase your chances of receiving an offer by:
- learning about effective job search strategy (link)
- meeting with one of Tech’s career coaches
- building a wish list of employers you’re most interested in and then focusing most of your effort on them
- actively establishing and nurturing relationships with professionals who currently work in the industry you’d like to work in
If you are a student or recent graduate with a documented disability (physical, academic, emotional, or mental) and are interested in federal (government) positions, you might be a candidate for the Workforce Recruitment Program, a federal disability program providing a more accessible hiring process. For more information about the program, please see Disability Employment Programs.
